Frequently Asked Questions

Everything you need to know about DataBrill and Amazon data ownership

General Questions

How is DataBrill different from account management services?

Account management services do operational tasks for you (updating listings, responding to buyers, managing ads). DataBrill is data infrastructure - we extract your Amazon data and put it in your database so YOU can do whatever analysis and automation you want. Think of us as your data pipeline, not your operations team.

Do I need to be technical to use DataBrill?

For basic use, no. We handle the connection and automated syncs - you can export to CSV or use our simple dashboard. For advanced use (custom SQL queries, BI tool connections), some SQL knowledge helps but isn't required. Many customers have their data team write queries while ops and finance consume the results.

What data does DataBrill extract?

We extract all major Amazon data via Selling Partner API and Advertising API: orders, order items, inventory, FBA shipments, returns, settlements, sponsored product campaigns, sponsored brand campaigns, ad groups, keywords, search terms, and performance metrics. We're continually adding more report types.

Database & Data

Can I use my own database?

Yes. You can use our managed PostgreSQL (we host it, you own it) or bring your own database credentials (your PostgreSQL server). Either way, you have full access to the data.

How often does data sync?

You choose. Daily, hourly, or custom schedules. We respect Amazon's API rate limits and handle retries automatically. Real-time status tracking shows you exactly when data was last updated.

What if I want to switch to another tool later?

That's the point - there's no lock-in. Your data is in YOUR database. Export it, migrate it, connect new tools to it. We don't hold your data hostage. You can leave anytime and keep everything.

How do I know your data is accurate?

We extract directly from Amazon's official APIs - Selling Partner API and Advertising API. It's the same data Amazon uses internally. We add metadata showing exactly when each record was synced and from which source. Full audit trail means you can verify everything.

Security & Compliance

How do you handle security?

OAuth credential flow (no passwords stored), encryption at rest, automatic token rotation, row-level security in multi-tenant setups, audit logging, and compliance-ready architecture. Your credentials and data are protected at every level.

I don't trust another vendor with my Amazon credentials

We use OAuth, the same secure flow that Amazon provides to all certified developers. We never see your password. Tokens are encrypted at rest. You can revoke access anytime directly from Seller Central. This is the same security model used by every professional Amazon tool.

Platform & Integration

Does this work for Vendor Central?

Currently we focus on Seller Central (Selling Partner API) and Advertising API. Vendor Central support is on our roadmap - contact us if this is critical for you.

Can you help with FBA reimbursements or account suspension?

No, we're a data platform, not an account management service. However, having your data in a database makes it much easier for YOU or your team to identify reimbursement opportunities or track account health metrics.

What about agencies managing multiple brands?

DataBrill is built for multi-tenant use. Create organizations for each brand, invite team members with specific roles, and maintain clean data separation. You get central oversight and billing while each brand's data stays isolated.

What if Amazon changes their API?

That's exactly why you want us. We monitor Amazon API changes and update our extraction logic. Your database schema stays stable. You get insulated from Amazon's constant changes instead of having to rebuild your exports every time they move something.

Use Cases

I already have an account manager, why do I need this?

Your account manager does operational work - updating listings, managing PPC, responding to customers. DataBrill is your data layer - it feeds them better information and gives you independent verification of results. They're complementary, not competitive.

I can just export from Seller Central when I need data

Manual exports don't scale, don't stay current, and don't integrate with your BI tools. Plus, advertising data lives in a different system. Good luck reconciling those monthly. DataBrill automates it all and keeps everything in sync.

This sounds technical, I'm not a developer

You don't need to be. We handle the technical integration with Amazon's APIs. You get a database that's ready to connect to tools like Tableau, or export to CSV. Many customers never write SQL - their finance person does that while ops and marketing consume the dashboards.
